"You guys made a really huge deal of that"- Scottie Scheffler's reaction to having an impressive lead at the Tour Championship
Scottie Scheffler reacted to his impressive score after the second round of the 2024 Tour Championship. The American golfer shot a 66 on Friday, August 30, at East Lake Golf Club, earning a four-stroke lead in the tournament.
Scheffler has had an excellent year on the greens and continued his dominance at this week's event. After the second round of the Tour Championship, Scheffler opened up about his impressive lead in the game. He stated that it was a good day and expressed confidence in his game.
Scheffler said (via ASAP Sports):
"Yeah, probably will definitely not have any more seven-shot leads after -- it was seven, wasn't it? I'm sure you guys made a really huge deal of that. Really it's just a product of me having a good day and the guys behind me on the leaderboard, there wasn't a lot of guys there to start the day, and those three guys there didn't have their best stuff.
"Then today was a day where I had a big lead, but there was a huge group of guys right there, so obviously some guys are going to play pretty well. But I did a good job of staying in my own world out there and put up a good round of golf," he added.
Scheffler started the Tour Championship with a 10-under score as the FedEx Cup standings leader. He shot a 65 in the first round and followed it up with a 66 in the second round, bringing his total to 21-under par, four strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa at 17-under par.
