"It's not as easy as it sounds to just say" - Jon Rahm on introducing a links event to the LIV Golf schedule

Since joining LIV Golf, all golfers have faced significant challenges to play outside of the Saudi-backed circuit due to a lack of OWGR points and a ban from playing on the PGA Tour. One of their other struggles is the lack of practice in a links event, which hampers their chances of winning the Open Championship.

This year, US golfer Xander Schauffele took home the Claret Jug and faced little to no competition from LIV Golfers. He had competed in the Scottish Open as preparation to play at the Old Course. While LIV Golf players opted to play at Valderrama in Spain, that wasn't enough.

LIV Golf rookie Jon Rahm supported the move to convince the Saudi-backed league to introduce a links event to prepare players better for the Open Championship. However, in July this year, he admitted it was easier said than done, considering the prior committments and plans made by the league. He told Golf Digest (via The Mirror):

"Obviously, LIV management have contracts in place with some venues and plans in the future.
"It's not as easy as it sounds to just say, 'Well, let's do this'. It'd be something I would like to talk to other players about because that way, there's strength in numbers if five, six or 10 solid players (agree). I think a lot of people might agree with it,"

Fellow LIV Golf player Cameron Smith recently endorsed Rahm's idea to introduce a links event.
