Zozo Championship first alternate Dylan Wu sounds off as rival withdraws from the event after opening round

PGA Tour player Dylan Wu expressed his frustration after Maverick McNealy withdrew from the Zozo Championship following the first round of the tournament. A total of 78 players entered the field for this week's PGA Tour event, which began on Thursday, October 24.

McNealy participated in the first round but withdrew afterward due to illness, leaving the field reduced to 77. The PGA Tour Communications announced his withdrawal on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

However, Wu was displeased with the timing of McNealy's withdrawal, as it occurred after the first round. The American golfer was the first alternate for the event but could not enter since the round had concluded. He responded in the to the post regarding McNealy's withdrawal, writing:

"Just love to see it when you were first alternate 😑😑😑."

The tournament has 10 alternates. Besides Dylan Wu, the other alternates include Taylor Montgomery, Michael Kim, Pierceson Coody, Jacob Bridgeman, Matt NeSmith, Vince Whaley, Kevin Tway, Matti Schmid, and Hayden Springer.

McNealy had a decent start to the tournament, shooting a 1-over 71 in the first round. He began his campaign on the first tee hole, making a bogey on the front nine. He added a birdie and another bogey on the back nine, finishing 1-over par.

After the first round, Taylor Moore took the solo lead.

Dylan Wu has competed in 25 PGA Tour events this season, though he struggled in most of them. His campaign began at the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he posted rounds of 67, 69, 70, and 66, finishing tied for 42nd. This season, Wu made the cut in 14 events but recorded only one top-10 finish.
