Puerto Rico Open champion D.A. Points

D.A. Points claimed his first PGA Tour title in four years with a two-shot victory at the Puerto Rico Open on Sunday.

Not since his success at the Houston Open in 2013 had Points being crowned champion, but the 40-year-old from Illinois finished with a six-under 66 to clinch his third PGA Tour title.

Points finished the week 20 under the card, with Retief Goosen, Bryson DeChambeau and Bill Lunde taking a share of second place in Rio Grande.

Having started the final day joint-second with Lunde, Points came out firing on all cylinders, making birdies at the first five holes.

His momentum was halted by bogeys at the sixth, eighth and 10th, but a further four gains in the last six holes was enough to end his long wait for a win, as well as securing a two-year exemption and a place in the PGA Championship and The Players Championship.

Goosen finished with a flourish, signing for a blemish-free eight-under 64 after going out in 31, while DeChambeau and Lunde went round in 67 and 68 respectively.

Chris Stroud's hopes of winning a first PGA Tour title were ended when he could only manage a one-under-par 71, leaving him in a tie for eighth.
