Shane Lowry’s past 10 major performances: Scores and finishes explored

The 2024 Open Championship is being led by Irish golfer Shane Lowry. In the first two rounds played at the Royal Troon Golf Club, Lowry shot 66-69 for a total of 135(-7) to be ahead of Daniel Brown and Justin Rose. Lowry has received a lot of praise on social media for the golf he has played until now.

However, Lowry's performance at The Open shouldn't come as a surprise. In the recent Major championships Lowry competed in, he found some good results. While not all outings were necessarily great, he did achieve good positions in the Major championships he played this year.

Let us take a detailed look at Shane Lowry's performances in the last 10 Major championships:

Shane Lowry at the US Open (2024)

In June, Lowry joined some of the best names in golf to play at the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2. While Lowry did not manage to win the event, he did achieve a top-20 finish. After the end of four rounds, the Irishman had scored 74-71-70-69 to finish T19.

PGA Championship (2024)

The 2024 PGA Championship was Shane Lowry's best performance in a Major championship this year. At the famed Valhalla Golf Club, Lowry played some amazing shots to score 69-69-62-70. This brilliant performance at the Major saw him finish in a tie for 6th place.

Masters (2024)

The 2024 Masters was Shane Lowry's first Major championship of the ongoing season. While Lowry shot 73-74 in the first two rounds and made the cut, he shot 75 and 74 in the third and fourth rounds which saw him tied for a 43rd place finish in the tournament.

The Open Championship (2023)

Shane Lowry's performance in the ongoing Open Championship is a drastic improvement compared to his outing in last year's edition. While Lowry shot 72 in Round 1 last year, the second round turned out to be a complete disaster as the 37-year-old shot 77, which resulted in him missing the cut.

US Open (2023)

In the 2023 US Open, Shane Lowry played a tremendous third round which was applauded by all those watching. However, an eventual score of 72-70-68-71 meant that Lowry finished T20. This performance was an improvement given he had not made the top 20 in the last PGA Tour event he played ahead of the US Open.

PGA Championship (2023)

Ahead of the 2023 PGA Championship, Shane Lowry had not made the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship. Hence, he did not have the best momentum going into the tournament. However, that didn't seem to matter a lot as Lowry scored 73-67-71-69 to finish T12.

Masters (2023)

In the first Major championship last year, Shane Lowry finished T16 at the 2023 Masters. Lowry scored 68-72-73-73 at the Augusta National Park to achieve this position. The Irishman walked home with a cash prize of $261,000 for his performance.

The Open Championship (2022)

Prior to The Open Championship in 2022, Shane Lowry was not in the best of form. Lowry had missed the cut in the US Open just prior to The Open and many wondered how would he do at The Open. However, at St. Andrews Links (Old Course), Lowry tied for 21st place with a score of 72-68-69-70.

US Open (2022)

Before Lowry arrived at The Country Club to play the US Open in 2022, he had achieved some good results on the tour, including a T10 finish. Hence, he was expected to perform well in the Major. However, after shooting 72-72 in the first two rounds, Lowry failed to make the cut.

Masters (2023)

The Masters in 2023 witnessed Lowry finish T3. While Lowry shot 73 in Round 1, he had a phenomenal Round 2 in which he shot 68. Round 3 of the Major championship saw his score fall a bit as he shot 73. However, the Irish golfer finished the Major on a strong note by shooting 69. His final score was 73-68-73-69.
