“There's never going to be another Tiger Woods”: Rory McIlroy heaps praise on 82 PGA Tour winner

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are considered the two greatest golfers of all time. In a side where Woods has won 82 PGA Tours, McIlroy has stayed in the No. 1 position in the Official World Golf rankings for 100 straight weeks.

In the newly released golf docuseries Full Swing on Netflix, McIlroy was seen heaping praise on fellow golfer Woods. In a voiceover, he explains why Tiger occupies such a special and vital role in the golf industry:

"There's never going to be another Tiger Woods in our game, for so many reasons. Not just his success on the golf course, but the barriers that he was able to break down. I think he's set a great example for a lot of us going forward."

Netflix's newly released docuseries Full Swing, has garnered a lot of attention from fans and experts across the globe.

The PGA Tour players followed in the inaugural season of Full Swing during the turbulent 2022 season, which saw the start of the breakaway LIV Golf series split the golfing community in half.

The last episode, titled 'Everything has led to this,' features Rory McIlroy, who faces Cam Smith at the open Championships to reclaim his lost glory in the PGA Tour. This episode's emphasis on McIlroy's friendship with Tiger Woods is one of its more heartwarming aspects.

McIlroy recalled his early admiration for the 15-time Major champion Woods, saying,

"I was obsessed with golf at that point anyway. But when Tiger came on the scene, he just sort of took it to a new level."

He added that he remembers Woods playing golf on Sunday nights because of the time difference:

"I just remember watching Tiger play golf. And it would've been on Sundays nights back home for us because of the time difference."

Rory McIlroy labels Tiger Woods as his 'Hero'. McIlroy concluded that "to a lot of people, he is golf."

Many of the series' golfing experts compared the entrances of McIlroy and Woods at the beginning of their respective careers. McIlroy recalled himself being a "cocky and arrogant kid" and telling people that he would be the best golfer in the world.

"I'm pretty sure, I was a pretty cocky and arrogant kid. I would tell anyone that'd listen I was gonna be the best golfer in the world."

The emotional nod between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as Woods travels down the 18th fairway was caught on video by Netflix after Woods missed the cut at the Open, which is likely his final opportunity to play at St. Andrews.

In a voiceover, McIlroy can be heard talking about Woods and calling him the 'legend' of the game:

"I have gotten to know Tiger very well over the past decade or more, and he is one of a kind and one of the legends of the game."

The chapter ends with McIlroy receiving a sincere text message from Woods congratulating him on winning the Tour Championship.
