Tiger Woods hits perhaps one of the most unexpected golf shots of his career
Tiger Woods is one of the most successful golfers in the history of the game. Fans have always been in awe of his shots. However, he would not have predicted the shot that he hit at the Genesis Invitational.
Tiger Woods shot a ball on Saturday at the 13th hole that landed in a fan's pocket before reaching the greens.
“It stopped right in my jacket. Then I pulled off my jacket and it fell right down,” explained the fan. “[I was standing] right here. I haven’t moved.”
Despite not having the ball in his pocket, Woods was granted relief by the officials in accordance with Rule 11.1b(1), which states:
"If the ball comes to rest on any person, animal or moving outside influence, the player must not play the ball as it lies. Instead, the player must take relief…”
Tiger Woods started the third with an eagle on the first hole. He then made a birdie on the fifth hole and then a bogey on the seventh. With two more birdies, Woods settled at a deficit of three to finish at 67. He made the cut and jumped 32 positions to finish at T26 after the third round.
"Tiger is so miserable sometimes"- Fans react to Tiger Woods shot
The PGA Tour shared the news of Tiger Woods' unfortunate shot on their Twitter account. Fans reacted in the comments section, calling him miserable for not interacting with the fan. They wrote:
"Tiger is so miserable sometimes. He could've made that fan's year by interacting with him just a little bit.."
People took a jab at Tiger Woods, highlighting the tampon controversy. One user wrote:
"It would have been hilarious if when he opened his jacket it was lined with tampons .... at least woods would have thought so huh?"
Another jotted:
"Along with five Green Jackets, Tiger Woods adds a ball in a fan’s jacket to his jacket feats."
"Dude should have taken off running toward the green before it fell out."
Others commented:
"True fan would have ran to put it in the cup."
"Tiger hits him with a golf ball and the dude says thank you."
Tiger Woods, 47, is playing in his first non-major official tournament since 2019. Injuries have forced him to stay away from golf and he hardly plays these days. However, as Woods returned to compete on the PGA tour, he landed in hot water after a picture of him giving a tampon to his friend went viral on social media.
Woods took the lead over Justin Thomas on the 9th nine in the second round of the Genesis Invitational and teased him by gifting him a tampon. Fans labeled his actions as those of a "14-year-old schoolboy" and chastised him for his bizarre prank. Tiger Woods apologized for his actions, but it was too late; the news had already spread like wildfire.
The Genesis Invitational tournament is scheduled to wrap up with the finale on Sunday, February 19. Jon Rahm took the lead after Saturday's round and is running to clinch the third event of the year.
