Top 5 golfers who could win their maiden Major in 2024
2023 saw some phenomenal performances on the golf course from some of the best players in the world.
Since 1946, golf has seen at least one of the four Majors crown a first-time winner. So let's look at the names of the top five golfers who have the ability to clinch their first Major victory in 2024.
#1 Viktor Hovland
The Norwegian sensation is at the top of the list and has the potential to win at least one Major next season. In 2023, Viktor Hovland finished in the top 20 of all four Majors, including a nail-biting runner-up finish at the PGA Championship.
He has 14 cuts and eight top-20 finishes in 16 Major starts. In addition, he has the ball-striking ability to compete anywhere, and his short-game improvements should have his opponents taking notice.
With his more mature approach to game plans, it would be surprising if Hovland did not win a Major next year.
#2 Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood has earned his spot on this list after making the cut in all four Majors in 2023, including a T5 at the US Open and a T10 at The Open.
Fleetwood has six top-5 finishes in his last 28 Major starts, indicating that getting into contention is not an issue for him. That's not to forget his top 10 finishes in three of the last four Open Championships.
#3 Rickie Fowler
It was a year of comebacks for a few veterans, including Rickie Fowler, who got a win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
It was just reward for Fowler, who finished in the top 25 in 18 of his 25 tour starts this season, including eight top-10 finishes.
#4 Tom Kim
Kim finished in the top 16 of three of the four Majors in 2023, including a runner-up finish at The Open.
He rarely misses fairways or greens, and if he has a good week with the putter, he can give anyone a run for their money.
#5 Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay was one of the players who got to represent his country at the Prestigious Ryder Cup competition this year. Additionally, he has top-15 finishes at the Masters, PGA, and US Open, making him another potential golfer to include in this list.
Cantlay has struggled at the Majors in the past, with only four top-ten finishes in 27 starts. But his talent level is clearly high, as he is an eight-time PGA tour winner.
