US Open 2014: Lot of action expected over the next 4 days

The second major of the year starts tomorrow as 156 golfers from across the world battle for glory. The field is set to be whittled down to 60 after the cut.

Tiger Woods will miss out due to his back injury while defending champion Justin Rose will be hoping for an encore.

The Pinehurst course has undergone several changes over the years. This year, it will be a par-70 course lengthened by 400 yards. This is the third time that the U.S Open is being played at the Pinehurst after 1999 and 2005.

Rory McIlroy will look to extend his form after his victory in the BMW PGA Championships last month. He finished in top 10 in eight of his 11 tournaments this year and is considered a favourite to lift the trophy.

Phil Michelson will once again try to win the only major eluding him to complete a career Grand Slam. He has finished second on six occasions.

All eyes will be on 20-year old Jordan Spieth after his terrific showing in both the Masters and the Players Championship.

Adam Scott is ranked No. 1 and is coming off a victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Colonial and a tied fourth place finish at the Memorial tournament. Bubba Watson is looking confident after winning the Masters in April. He will enjoy the course thanks to his good driving game.

This will be the last Amateur tournament for 19-year old Matthew Fitzpatrick who is going to go pro at the end of the U.S Open. Sergio Garcia had a good run in the Players Championship last month where he finished third and is expected to put up a good show at Pinehurst.
