What happened the last time Tiger Woods played the Arnold Palmer Invitational?

Tiger Woods made his return to the PGA Tour a couple of weeks ago at the Genesis Invitational. However, he won't be competing in every tournament, citing his injury problems.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational starts this week on March 2, and Tiger Woods has won the tournament at Bay Hill the most [eight] times in the history of golf.

Most of the top golfers will be playing at Bay Hill Golf Course, barring Tiger Woods. However, it's not as if Woods is skipping the event for the first time. He last played at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2018, and that's the only time he has competed at the event since 2013.

Woods didn't do much wrong as he opened up with a 4-under 68 in the first round. On the second day, he scored an even par 72. In the last two rounds, he holed an identical 3-under 69 to aggregate at 10-under 278, 8 strokes short of tournament champion Rory McIlroy.

Overall, he shot 20 birdies but for eight bogeys and a double bogey. He finished in tied fifth place and earned $ 338,200.

Although Tiger Woods isn't playing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year, he is the most celebrated player at Bay Hill and has dominated the event for almost two decades.

His first win at Bay Hill came in 1991, three decades ago, when he claimed the 1991 U.S. Junior Amateur at Bay Hill. It was the first of his three consecutive victories in the championship.

As an amateur, Woods missed the cut in 1994, however, this was just the start of domination. Between 1997 and 2013, Woods played the Arnold Palmer Invitational 16 times and made the cut every time. He has won the tournament eight times (2000-2003, 2008-2009, 2012-2013), and 14 times he has finished in the top 25, including nine times in the top 10.

His T5 performance at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational was his first top-5 finish since August 2013. The Arnold Palmer Invitational stands out as the only active PGA Tour event that Woods has won eight times on a single course.

Woods has claimed victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational eight times at Firestone Country Club and has triumphed at the Farmers Insurance Open seven times at Torrey Pines. Notably, he also emerged victorious at the 2008 U.S. Open on the South Course at Torrey Pines.

Between 2000 and 2013, Woods was at an impressive 109-under at Bay Hill. Vijay Singh was the next closest at 36-under. He has won $7,657,559 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his career.
