Carolina Panthers fire general manager Dave Gettleman
After four seasons in Charlotte, Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman was relieved of his duties on Monday.
The Panthers went to the playoffs in each of Gettleman's first three seasons at the franchise and appeared in Super Bowl 50 before going 6-10 in 2016.
Although he has been a part of seven Super Bowl teams and 16 playoff sides, the 66-year-old has been let go by Carolina.
"After much thought and a long evaluation of our football operations, I have decided to relieve Dave Gettleman of his duties as general manager," team owner Jerry Richardson said in a statement.
"I want to thank Dave for the role he played in our success over the past four seasons. While the timing of this decision is not ideal, a change is needed."
The Panthers open their training camp on July 26.
