DeMarcus Ware re-signs with Cowboys to retire as part of team
DeMarcus Ware has re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys in order to retire as a member of the team, the five-time Super Bowl champions announced on Monday.
Ware will be placed on the NFL's reserved/retired list after 13 seasons, the last three with the Denver Broncos, whom he helped lead to a Super Bowl 50 victory after the 2015 season.
But it will be as a Cowboy that Ware, 34, will be remembered.
Taken 11th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Troy, Ware became the first - and main - cog in then-coach Bill Parcells' shift from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 scheme.
He became the Cowboys’ all-time sacks leader with 117, surpassing Harvey Martin's 114.

Not only did Ware become an edge-rushing monster, but he also proved adept at stopping the run while playing in 134 consecutive games before an injury finally sidelined him for three games in the 2013 season, his last with the Cowboys.
He has been plagued by injuries with the Broncos, especially to his back, and has missed a combined 11 games over the past two seasons.
