Eagles sign running back Matt Jones
Former Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts running back Matt Jones is heading to Philadelphia, the team announced on Wednesday.
Jones signed a two-year contract and, according to NFL Network, he "won a three-back workout Tuesday" that included Terrance West, while visiting the team.
Jones started his NFL career with the Redskins as a third-round pick in 2015 out of Florida.
He spent two seasons with Washington before suffering a knee injury and was unable to win back his starting spot. In seven starts and 20 games with the Redskins, Jones had 950 rushing yards with six touchdowns in addition to 377 receiving yards on 27 catches.
Last season, Jones signed with the Colts but played in only five games before he was waived earlier this month.
The 25-year-old will likely have to fight for time on the field as he joins a crowded group of backs in Philadelphia behind Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood and Darren Sproles.
