Opinion: What can the Dallas Cowboys do to help Dak Prescott take his game to the next level
Dak Prescott is easily the most criticized player in the NFL, mainly because he is the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dak may have his flaws but you cannot deny his will to win which makes him so special. Today, we will discuss what the Cowboys front office and coaching staff can do to help Prescott take to improve as a quarterback.
Get the guy a real QB coach
Since former quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tony Romo left the Cowboys sideline after the 2016 season, Prescott has not had the luxury of learning from an experienced quarterback.
The main issue fans and analysts constantly saw that hurt Dak during games is his mechanics.
He constantly throws off his back foot and does not follow through with his throws. To me, that is lack of coaching which is why I believe he needs to get someone who has enough experience to work with him on a weekly basis.
Current quarterback coach Kellen Moore is in his first year under a coaching gig and I know he is a very intelligent guy, but his lack of coaching experience is what is holding Dak back.
Bringing in an experienced quarterback and coach such as Jon Kitna, who played for Dallas from 2009-2011, would help Prescott tremendously with his mechanics and overall makings of what is needed of a quarterback.
If the Cowboys truly want to bring the best out of these young players that we have such as Prescott, they will need to bring in some good coaches who can help get these men to the promise land.
A Creative Offensive Coordinator
Scott Linehan took over play-calling duties, the Cowboys offense has struggled in the red zone and has become known as a predictable offense.
Each game on certain downs, you could see the plays the offense was going to run because people have grown used to the repetitiveness.
Prescott has regressed since his rookie season and seems to me Linehan has limited his ability to perform at his best.
We have seen Prescott hold the ball and take way too many sacks this season, this alone makes me think Linehan is transforming Dak into something he is not, which is a pocket passer.
Linehan has coached and called plays for quarterbacks such as Matthew Stafford and Tony Romo who throughout their entire careers are considered gunslingers.
Dak is a dual-threat type of quarterback, not the most accurate but he can make the occasional throw but more effective using his feet. It is your job as an offensive coordinator to tailor the offensive scheme to the abilities of your quarterback to allow him to perform at his best.
After the embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Playoff Round, the Cowboys need to hire a creative minded coordination to complement Prescott and this offense if they want to break the curse of not advancing to the NFC Championship.
We all witnessed the wasted talent and careers of former Cowboys greats because of the lack of coaching by the staff.
The best thing for the front office does bring in someone who can utilize the skills of Prescott and the offense now before it is too late.
