Packers snatch Bennett to replace Cook

Martellus Bennett

Martellus Bennett is leaving one contender for another, joining the Green Bay Packers.

After helping the New England Patriots win the Super Bowl last month, Bennett signed a deal with the Packers on Friday, the team announced.

Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Bennett's time in New England virtually came to a end when the team traded with the Indianapolis Colts for Dwayne Allen earlier this week.

Bennett, who turned 30 on Friday, caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

He will now try to quickly build chemistry with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay's high-octane offense.

Jared Cook, who struggled with injuries while with the Packers last season, will likely sign with another team. He is an unrestricted free agent.
