5 biggest issues fixed in GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition (PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC)

Back in November 2021, Rockstar Games released official remasters of the classic Grand Theft Auto 3D Universe Trilogy (GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas) as GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition. Fans were quite excited for it, but the games were riddled with bugs and issues, accounting for a very disappointing launch. However, things seem much better now after some patches, especially after the one that dropped on November 12, 2024.

This latest update was released first for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and then for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on November 13, 2024. It has fixed numerous issues in all three titles' remasters and even added a few new features, such as the ability to pause during cutscenes.

With that said, let's take a look at the five biggest issues fixed in GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition: 5 of the biggest issues fixed (PS5, PS4, Xbox, PC)

1) Lighting

The lighting in the Definitive Edition remasters of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas were updated to match modern standards, but they lacked the charm and distinctive feeling that the original lighting had.

This wasn't a technical issue that hampered gameplay, but it was something that fans complained about. Rockstar has fixed this problem by introducing a Classic Lighting option that can be toggled on and off in all three Definitive Edition titles.

2) CJ's character model

GTA San Andreas and its protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson are incredibly popular among gamers. One of the issues this title's remaster suffered from was the weird posture of CJ's character model in certain positions, such as when crouched or riding a bike. Additionally, the soda drinking animation in the remaster was such that CJ would pour the can on his head.

These issues have now been fixed. Rockstar Games didn't mention much in the latest GTA trilogy definitive edition patch notes, but fans quickly found out and posted about it online.

3) Aiming animation

Another issue related to animation in GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was when players aimed while running. The protagonists' hand in Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City remasters would glitch in and out of the correct position, which looked very odd.

This issue has also been fixed in the latest GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition update. Furthermore, a new feature has been added that allows players to move while using certain weapons, like shotguns and assault rifles.

4) Fog

The absence of fog was one of the biggest issues in GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, especially in GTA San Andreas' remaster. If players got up high enough in the sky, such as when using the jetpack or flying an aircraft, they could see the entire map. Needless to say, this was immersion-breaking and affected the illusion of having a big open-world map.

Rockstar has properly implemented fog in these games via the latest update. This not only helps with immersion but also in replicating the atmosphere of the original games to an extent.

5) Rain effects

The original Definitive Edition rain effects were incredibly poor and could really affect visibility sometimes. The rain drops looked like opaque white lines, and that made certain activities, like driving at night, pretty challenging.

This issue seems to have been fixed to a great extent in the newly released GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition update. As seen in the X post above, the rain looks a lot more natural now.
