5 GTA 4 secrets very few players know about
Although it's quite old, there are still several GTA 4 secrets that even veteran players might not know about. These can range from tricks to driving underwater, falling off buildings without hurting yourself, glitching through buildings, and so on. So, we've compiled a list of some of the best GTA 4 secrets you can find in Grand Theft Auto 4 and its expansions.
It should be noted that some of the secrets in this list were discovered by Grand Theft Auto YouTuber Fiqql, who also goes hunting for such hidden glitches and tricks in Grand Theft Auto 5.
With that said, here are some GTA 4 secrets that very few players know about.
GTA 4 secrets that are well hidden from players
1) Driving underwater
Steinway, on the eastern island of Liberty City, harbors one of the most intriguing GTA 4 secrets. Here, a massive swimming pool (visible in the map itself) lets you drive underwater. Simply bring the car over to the pool and drive it into the deep end. Once the game automatically kicks you out of the vehicle, get out of the pool and walk over to the road outside.
Now, immediately turn back and head to the vehicle in the pool. You'll now be able to get in and drive it underwater. Once you get out again, you can even walk on the pool floor as if there's no water there. This trick works in the base game as well as expansions like The Ballad of Gay Tony.
2) Falling down buildings without any damage
One of the most useful GTA 4 secrets is that you can fall from tall buildings and even some of the lower skyscrapers without taking damage. You'll still be hurt by this little trick, but not from the fall itself. All you need to do is climb over to the ledge and throw a Molotov Cocktail right in front of you so that the fire catches you and you fall.
However, you need not worry about dying immediately, as this leads to a hilarious glitch. The protagonist, Niko Bellic, goes limp and falls down the ledge after his clothes catch fire, but once the fire goes out, he'll be locked in a standing-up animation. As long as you fall before the standing-up animation is completed, you'll be fine.
Keep in mind that this particular trick doesn't work on taller buildings, as Niko will be in for a free fall after his standing-up animation is completed, and take lethal fall damage.
3) Cross the toll plaza for free
The East Borough Bridge is an enormous bridge overlooking Charge Island that seems to overtake almost all land on this tiny island. Now, there's a toll plaza here, near the Steinway/Broker exit that deducts an almost negligible $5 toll for crossing the bridge. If you attempt to cross the toll plaza without paying the toll, you'll immediately get a wanted level.
However, you can avoid this by going through the narrow passage on either side of the toll plaza. This, of course, only works with smaller cars and motorbikes. Besides, the $5 toll means nothing, especially in a game where money doesn't have any major purpose, so this is one of those GTA 4 secrets that just serves as a cool fact.
4) Fall through the map
You can fall through the map in several Grand Theft Auto games, especially in the GTA Trilogy and even in Grand Theft Auto 5. As such, one of the most fun GTA 4 secrets is to fall through the map in Westdyke Memorial Hospital, located in Leftwood, Alderney.
Drive through the hospital with a car, go to the ER Department passageway, and lodge the car all the way to the far end of the hallway. Now, get out of the car, hop on to it, and jump over to the indentation on the wall. If you do it right, you'll eventually fall through the map.
If you want things to go back to normal, just head out away from the hospital, and the game world will load back in.
5) Airport surveillance radar glitch
The Airport surveillance radar (ASR) antenna at the Francis International Airport deserves to be mentioned in this list as it hides one of the most hilarious GTA 4 secrets. As it turns out, you can land on this tower with any Grand Theft Auto helicopter, as the tower's collision model doesn't match its visual design.
You can even walk over the antenna, and it will look like your character is floating mid-air. The best way to figure out the shape of the tower's collision mesh is to shoot at it.
