5 reasons not to give up on GTA 4 anytime soon

Rockstar Games dropped GTA 4 back in 2008. There was a lot of hype around its release back then, and it has received even more love and appreciation from fans as time has passed. Its combination of an engaging story and immensely fun gameplay has been very entertaining for players, and its popularity could continue in the future.

This article lists five reasons to not give up on Grand Theft Auto 4 anytime soon.

Note - This article is subjective and only reflects the writer's opinions.

Why you shouldn't give up on GTA 4 anytime soon

1) It is still a solid game

Grand Theft Auto 4 is a little over 15 years old at this point but has aged really well. Most of its gameplay mechanics have stood the test of time, and the physics engine is very enjoyable, giving tough competition to many modern titles. Even GTA 5 lacks some features from this game.

Grand Theft Auto 4 also has a mature and riveting narrative, a well-written cast of characters, and two great story mode DLCs in The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Lost and Damned, all of which make for a combination that is really hard to beat.

2) It can prepare you for Grand Theft Auto 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely be set in the franchise's HD Universe, which kicked off with GTA 4 in 2008. Playing this game is, hence, a must for those who want to understand the full context of the universe.

It should also be noted that some characters from past games can show up in future installments. So, to enjoy any such possible returns in Grand Theft Auto 6 to the fullest, you will have to go through Grand Theft Auto 4 first.

3) Should entertain players on platforms without Grand Theft Auto 6

The GTA 6 release date will arrive at some point during Fall 2025. However, it should be noted that this game will only be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. This means last-generation console and PC users won't have access to the next Grand Theft Auto, at least at launch.

Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online are there to keep such players busy, but those now bored of these titles after playing them continuously in the last 10 years can look toward Grand Theft Auto 4. Interestingly, its multiplayer community is still pretty active on certain platforms, and experiencing that today can feel distinct, fun, and very refreshing.

4) There might be a really long time before a potential GTA 6 sequel

Players have gone back to older games like Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto 4 while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6. Given how long it takes to develop modern video games, it could be a while before we hear of a potential Grand Theft Auto 7.

Whenever that waiting period arrives, older games like GTA 4 should be revisited, just like now. In short, the relevance of Rockstar's 2008 release doesn't seem to be diminishing anytime soon.

5) There might be a remaster

Rumors of a GTA 4 remaster have been going around for quite some time now. Rockstar Games hasn't hinted at anything along these lines, but fans have been quite vocal of late about wanting such a thing.

In fact, it might become a reality at some point, just like The Definitive Edition remasters did back in late 2021. That would make Grand Theft Auto 4 available on modern consoles, possibly with some touch-ups adding to the title's appeal.
