1) There is nothing quite like it
Among the reasons why Grand Theft Auto is such a big name in the gaming industry are its missions, satirical humor, detailed open world, and the amount of freedom it offers. In short, there are few other titles that offer all of these things together at a high quality.
Now, put all of that in a multiplayer environment, and that is essentially GTA Online. Getting to experience these elements solo in story mode titles is definitely fun, but doing so with friends can be a lot more exciting.
2) Can be very enjoyable outside of missions
GTA Online Heists, businesses, and missions make up some of the game's best content. However, the fun is not just limited to them. In fact, you can do so much more, like exploring the open-world map with friends or engaging in chaotic PvP with them.
Then there are deathmatches, different types of races, and Adversary Modes that add another interesting dimension to this title's multiplayer gameplay.
3) Weekly updates
Rockstar Games drops a GTA Online weekly update every Thursday, and what it does is introduce bonuses on the payouts of certain in-game jobs and activities. These can be business sell missions, heists, and even multiplayer game modes that have been mentioned in the previous entry.
Many of them are already more fun to play with friends than solo. Additionally, the bonuses add a monetary benefit that you and your friends can take advantage of together. Beating them becomes a little easier in a group as well.
4) Still receiving major DLCs
Rockstar Games has released countless Grand Theft Auto Online updates in the last 10 years and is still doing so. Its latest as of writing, Bottom Dollar Bounties, dropped just back in June 2024 and added a Bounty Hunting business and some other new things to the game.
Although Grand Theft Auto 6 is on the horizon, there might be a few more major GTA Online DLCs in store. In a nutshell, more exciting content could be added to the game in the near future, and playing it with your friends is a fun way to prepare for it.

Rockstar Games has set Fall of 2025 as the release window for its highly anticipated title - Grand Theft Auto 6. There is a long time before that period arrives, and if there is a game that can keep you and your friends thoroughly entertained until then, it is GTA Online.
Yes, there are other video game franchises, but as already mentioned, there is nothing quite like this game. It will also have the latest Grand Theft Auto action until the GTA 6 release date arrives, which is why it is worth taking up.
