5 things Rockstar will never add to GTA Online
GTA Online’s open nature gives it the potential to add various things to the gameplay. However, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are very strict regarding what content will be added to the multiplayer game. Over the years, players have requested many things to be included in Grand Theft Auto Online. While the studio sometimes listens, most of the requests are still pending.
This article lists five things that Rockstar Games will likely not add to GTA Online ever.
Note: This article is subjective and only reflects the writer’s opinions. The listing is not in any order.
Five things we may never see in the GTA Online gameplay
1) Dedicated servers
While it may sound upsetting, GTA Online will never have any dedicated servers. Rockstar Games has yet to introduce secured dedicated servers into the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The current multiplayer game runs on a peer-to-peer connection where a server is created based on the connection of one particular player. Many players, especially those who are on PC, often request dedicated servers for the game due to modder and hacker infestations.
However, insiders have previously disclosed that Take-Two Interactive was not interested in investing money in dedicated servers for Grand Theft Auto Online. Another rumor is that Grand Theft Auto 6 Online will also lack dedicated servers.
2) Older Grand Theft Auto protagonists
While Rockstar Games re-introduces various older characters in GTA Online, the protagonists belong to that category of characters who we may never see again. The HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series currently has seven protagonists: Niko Bellic, Johnny Klebitz, Luis Fernando Lopez, Huang Lee, Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton, and Trevor Philips. The last two were added to the multiplayer game as they are from Grand Theft Auto 5.
Rockstar Games has yet to add Michael De Santa and other remaining (alive) protagonists in GTA Online. While fans have requested a Michael DLC multiple times, the studio shows no interest in it. In that case, expecting 3D Universe protagonists to return is a pipe dream.
3) Real-life advertisements
GTA Online has the full potential to become an asset to lure advertisers. The open world has various hoardings, banners, and other locations where real-life brands can put their product advertisements. This is certainly one thing fans would do if they got control of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
However, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are not great fans of this idea. Since the world of Grand Theft Auto 5 is satirical, the studio only added parody advertisements created in-house. Rockstar even asked the Grand Theft Auto RP servers to remove real-life advertisements from their modded gameplay.
4) Mansions
Mansions are one of the most requested things by the GTA Online playerbase. However, Rockstar Games may never add it to the game. While fans have various theories as to why we may never get to buy mansions in Grand Theft Auto 5 Online, the most popular one is that the map size is too small for individual mansion expansions.
The theory says that if we get mansions, then multiple players will have to share the same property, similar to apartments. Therefore, while we will be getting new businesses in GTA Online, mansions seemingly are off the chart.
5) Real-life cars
While Rockstar frequently adds new cars in the multiplayer game, it will never add real-life cars. The studio takes inspiration from real cars and modifies them to match the in-game settings and to avoid potential copyright infringements.
The new cars in the GTA Online Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC also follow suit. While there are several realistic-looking cars in the game, all of them have at least one thing changed to avoid the aforementioned issues.
