Is GTA 6 delayed: No, but how did it all start?
The GTA 6 delay rumor started on September 8, 2024, when @billsyliamgta posted on X that the game has been delayed to 2026. They claimed their sources to be someone inside the company and suggested that the PC port could take around 12-18 months of time to be released after the console launch.
Many in the gaming community reacted to it, with the post even getting the attention of reputable reporters like Tom Henderson and Jason Schreier.
On September 9, 2024, Tom Henderson responded to GTA 6 getting delayed to a 2026 release rumor on an X post by claiming that they have no idea about it; however, there isn’t a delay “at the moment”. Here’s what they further stated:
“No one will comment because it can change in a heartbeat, and no one wants an egg on their face and give credit to someone who could have lied, been misled, or passed off an educated guess as a leak, as it could have bigger implications down the road.”
Shortly after, Jason Schreier also responded to the situation on X saying many people contacted them to know whether GTA 6 is getting delayed. According to them, six different employees have said that they haven’t heard about any such delay so far. They said that the rumor was “nonsense.”
This is certainly good news for fans who don’t want the game to be delayed to 2026.
That said, they also suggested that it is not impossible for a Grand Theft Auto 6 delay to happen in the future as it’s a big and ambitious game. Here’s what they stated:
“Bad news: it's a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive”
Like Jason Schreier said, there is no Grand Theft Auto 6 delay at the moment. However, things can change anytime from now till the game's release time frame of fall 2025.
