Fan-made GTA Online movie Grand Theft Hamlet coming to cinemas in the US and UK
Grand Theft Hamlet, a fan-made movie shot completely within GTA Online will reportedly release in cinemas in the US and UK soon. It is about two out-of-work actors trying to perform William Shakespeare's famous play, Hamlet, inside the game. It should be noted that the film has been shown at some festivals and, interestingly, has been appreciated quite a bit. In fact, its Rotten Tomatoes score as of this writing sits at a highly impressive 95%.
It is written and directed by Pinny Grylls and Sam Crane, with associate writer and director Mark Oosterveen. As per Grand Theft Hamlet's website, the idea for the film was conceived when the actors found an open theatre in Los Santos, which is the Vinewood Bowl located in the Vinewood Hills. The website also states that the in-game phone camera was used for close-ups and pans across landscapes.

A short clip for Grand Theft Hamlet is also available, which shows the actors inviting GTA Online players to watch the play's performance at the Vinewood Bowl. However, things do not go as planned for long as two of the viewers start fighting with each other and attack the actors as well.
The cops then show up at the scene, and they too attack one of the actors in the commotion, killing one of them, which is when the aforementioned clip ends.
According to MUBI, Grand Theft Hamlet will be released in US theaters soon, as can be seen in the X post above, but an exact date has not been mentioned yet. The post also talks about it being streamed globally, but no streaming platforms have seemingly been mentioned so far either.
That being said, as per a report by Screen Daily, the film will be released in UK cinemas on December 6, 2024. So, it looks like residents of the UK interested in watching this fan-made GTA Online movie might not have to wait too long.
