First look at GTA 6 car deformation physics seemingly found in trailer
While Rockstar Games has remained silent on any news related to GTA 6 for eight months, fans continue to observe little details available on the first official trailer. Recently, a Redditor named KerimTeaPot (u/KerimTeaPot) shared a post on the r/GTA subreddit talking about car deformation physics in the upcoming game. The user shared a screenshot from the first trailer that showed an impressive deformation of one of Jason and Lucia’s cars.
Grand Theft Auto fans have been asking Rockstar Games for realistic car damage for ages. The image shared by Redditor u/KerimTeaPot seemed like a step in that direction.
Redditor discovers impressive car deformation physics in the first GTA 6 trailer
The image embedded above showed a Declasse Tulip driven by Lucia and Jason (name yet to be verified) having a huge dent on one of the rear door panels. It is worth noting that Tulip is also available in Grand Theft Auto 5 Online, and it is a returning car in GTA 6.
While car damage is still present in the current game, it is not as impressive as shown in the image above. Rockstar Games used Euphoria Physics Engine in Grand Theft Auto 4 and it produced some of the most realistic-looking car damages. However, Grand Theft Auto 5 reduced that effect and resorted to a few pre-defined damage patterns.
After seeing the car deformation physics in the first trailer, fans are hopeful that the studio is bringing back some significant improvements in the game engine again. One Redditor named UsualSuspect26 (u/UsualSuspect26) commented:
“I hope they build on GTA 4’s car deformation, honestly I feel like with GTA 5 they dialed back the realism a little bit.”
Another user named FarmersTanAndProud (u/FarmersTanAndProud) commented that Rockstar should integrate some new car deformation features in GTA 6:
“Imagine if they mix something like BeamNG.drive”
Many others also stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 should have realistic physics and car damages, especially similar to Grand Theft Auto 4. The September 2022 leaks showed the implementation of a new ragdoll engine. While Rockstar Games has yet to showcase the proper gameplay, many believed that it was an enhanced version of the Euphoria Physics Engine from 2008.
However, we’ll have to wait till the GTA 6 release date to test the final version of the car deformation physics.
