GTA 5 dev Rockstar Games reportedly shelved Bully and The Warriors port
Rockstar Games is mostly known for franchises like GTA and Red Dead Redemption. However, the GTA 5 developer has many other titles under its belt, for instance, Bully, a fan-favorite, and even something like The Warriors, a relatively lesser-known game from 2005. Interestingly, a recent report suggests that Rockstar was developing ports of the two titles on the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, respectively, but these projects eventually got shelved.
In fact, The Warriors' port was allegedly quite far ahead in terms of progress and was "pretty much finished and ready for release". Here's a quote from an ex-Rockstar employee on the matter from the said report:
"We were going for four-player co-op using the link cable and stuff. We finished the game. It was actually f**king fun to play. But there it sits never to be released because that’s when the PSP was gaining momentum and we weren’t really seeing good returns on Nintendo. Nintendo at the time didn’t like promoting M-rated games. We were comfortable in Sony land, so we went with The Warriors direct port on PSP."
As far as Bully's reported port is concerned, Rockstar doesn't seem to have gone too far with that plan, as its devs supposedly got diverted to a different project.
GTA 5 dev Rockstar Games reportedly canceled Nintendo hand-held ports of Bully and The Warriors
As per a recent report by Time Extension, Rockstar Games had ports of Bully on the Nintendo DS and The Warriors on Game Boy Advance in the works at one point, but they ended up being canceled.
The website states anonymous former Rockstar employees as its sources and mentions that The Warriors port would have used the same engine as Max Payne's Game Boy Advance port. What's even more interesting is that a copy of this port allegedly exists.
However, Bully's planned Nintendo DS port was reportedly dropped, seemingly pretty early on, due to the team at Rockstar Leeds being diverted to a different project, which is suggested to be LA Noire.
While The Warriors, as already mentioned, is a rather lesser-known Rockstar title, Bully is quite popular in the gaming community. There has been a lot of demand for its sequel and references to that were seemingly found in GTA 5's leaked source code.
There's no way to tell when, or if at all, a Bully sequel might release but fans hope to get it after GTA 6's 2025 release.
