GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced Edition reportedly hinted for PC in today's update

On September 17, 2024, Rockstar Games released a new GTA 5 update for PC users, adding the BattlEye Anti-Cheat software while fixing some of the known issues so far. However, it seems that the update has mistakenly revealed some data that were not supposed to be seen.

Popular insider Tez2 reported on X after the update's release that Rockstar Games accidentally left a metadata file that suggests a GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced version or its equivalent could come to PC very soon.

GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced version for PC has reportedly been in the works since earlier this year

As can be seen above, Tez2 stated on X that the metadata file found in today’s GTA 5 update indicates that the developer has been working on a “Gen9 version of #GTAV for PC” since earlier this year. This is the same as the Expanded and Enhanced versions available on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 platforms.

The following is a screenshot of the SteamDB App data supposedly for the game's Gen9 version on PC:

In another tweet, Tez2 also reported that the Red Dead Redemption PC port’s metadata had also been found in the GTA 5 update today. This screenshot is supposedly the SteamDB App data for the same:

The Grand Theft Auto 5 Expanded and Enhanced edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S has the following exclusive features that are not available in the standard edition:

  • Hao’s Special Works
  • HSW Performance Upgrades
  • Karin S95
  • Pfister Astron Custom
  • Coil Cyclone II
  • Imponte Arbiter GT
  • Pegassi Weaponized Ignus
  • HSW Specification Service
  • Premium Test Ride
  • Hao's Special Works Race Series
  • Hao's Special Works Time Trials
  • A brand new Main Menu
  • Career Builder
  • Career Progress
  • Better visuals
  • Ray-tracing reflections
  • Quicker loading times

If a Gen9 version will be released for PC players, they can expect the same features to be available to them as well. Currently, the PC version is equivalent to a PS4 or Xbox One version.

Players should take this information with a grain of salt as finding a metadata file doesn’t really guarantee a release as plans can change at any time from the developer's end.
