GTA 5 publisher Rockstar Games working on a project with former L.A. Noire developers: Report

Former L.A. Noire developers are reportedly working with GTA 5 publisher Rockstar Games on a VR project. According to a report by VGC (X/@VGC_News), a group, composed of Team Bondi developers, is working on a project set in 1940s Los Angeles.

This article takes a deeper look at this report and what Video Games Deluxe said after it was published.

More about report claiming former L.A. Noire developers are working on a VR project for GTA 5 publisher Rockstar Games

On July 6, 2024, VGC published the article above, disclosing a new Rockstar Games project for VR platforms. The project was apparently discovered from a deleted Instagram post by Freyja Garbett, an Australian artist. The post read:

“From the creators of L.A. Noire comes Sowden House, a psychological thriller set in 1940s L.A. that will have you questioning your sanity. I never thought I’d be writing for video game but I’m grateful for the opportunity!'

While Grand Theft Auto series publisher Rockstar Games closed Team Bondi after the release of L.A. Noire, the developers formed a new studio called Video Games Deluxe, which had worked on L.A. Noire: The V.R. Case files.

The report further highlighted a 2020 LinkedIn post by the new studio, stating that it was working on a new project for the GTA 5 publisher. If you connect the dots between the deleted Instagram post and the LinkedIn statement, it can be assumed that the artist had hinted about the new project.

However, soon after the report by Video Games Chronicle, Video Games Deluxe shared the following statement:

“We are working exclusively on projects for Rockstar. We commissioned some music from a local composer Freyja Garbett for a VR project that we were working on a number of years ago when between projects… We have no idea whether this will ever see the light of day, but we decided to finish the score commission to support a local composer.”

Fans are waiting for a confirmation from the GTA 5 publisher, especially since the GTA 6 release date is also approaching.
