GTA 5’s Chop was seemingly motion captured

Grand Theft Auto fans are still unaware of many behind-the-scenes things about GTA 5’s Chop. However, a renowned data miner named Lucas7yoshi_RS (X/@Lucas7yoshi_RS) recently disclosed that the pet dog was designed with motion capture technology, similar to other human characters. They also shared a video where you can see a hidden mini detail of Chop being a real dog.

However, fans are advised to take the information with a grain of salt as the details are yet to be verified by Rockstar Games.

Data miner discloses behind-the-scenes details about GTA 5’s Chop

On July 22, Lucas7yoshi_RS shared the above video disclosing some behind-the-scene details about GTA 5’s Chop. As per their statement, Shawn Fonteno and Slink Johnson disclosed that the beloved pet dog was motion-captured for his role. It is worth noting that Chop is the first animal in the Grand Theft Auto series that you can both own and control.

Lucas7yoshi_RS shared a breakdown video of a cutscene from the mission Chop, where the actor-dog was seemingly lured toward a treat. The setup was later artificially changed to the van used by Franklin and Lamar to kidnap a Ballas member called D.

However, GTA 5 Chop’s motion still shows him eating something from the ground. This scene is usually hidden from direct perception as the thing happens inside the van. Moreover, players get to control Franklin Clinton in a fast-paced situation, making Chop’s actions easy to miss.

Rockstar Games is known to include various crazy little details in Grand Theft Auto 5, and Chop is one of the most intriguing aspects of it. In the game, he feels like a living breathing animal who has different moods and special utilities. Until December 2022, players could even train GTA 5’s Chop with the real-life iFruit app (now discontinued).

However, Rockstar Games never revealed who was the actor of Chop, or how he was filmed. Fans got to see his latest status in December 2021 with The Contact update, one of the best GTA Online summer DLCs.

Although there are no new details after that, Chop is still believed to be alive in the game.
