It’s been a roller coaster ride for GTA 6 fans since the news of the possible delay of the game hit the internet last week. While this started with a rumor that was subsequently debunked by a reputable reporter, it seems that a GTA 6 delay could still happen in 2025. According to an X post from September 15, 2024, by Obbe Vermeij, a former Rockstar developer who worked on classic Grand Theft Auto titles, the company won’t be able to determine if a delay is needed until about May 2025.
They also claimed that the upcoming title in the series will sell for 10+ years. Read on to learn more about their comments and what it means for the GTA 6 delay controversy.
A GTA 6 delay is still possible, in a similar manner to GTA 4 was
According to Obbe Vermeij's analysis about the GTA 6 delay, Rockstar could postpone the game's release by a few months after the fall of 2025, the currently announced release time frame. They gave the example of the Grand Theft Auto 4, the decision to delay which was made four months or so before the actual release date.
Talking about Rocktar Games’ situation when they would probably decide that a Grand Theft Auto 6 delay might be needed to perfect the game, here’s what they stated:
“R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish.”
