GTA 6 might not hit 4k 60 fps on PS5 Pro, suggests tech expert: Report
Sony shocked the world by revealing PS5 Pro, along with its hefty price tag of $699 earlier this week, and some GTA 6 fans have been hoping for the new console to run Grand Theft Auto 6 at 4k 60 fps. However, it seems unlikely as per a leading tech expert. In an interview with IGN reported on September 13, 2024, the technology editor at Digital Foundry Richard Leadbetter suggested that GTA 6 might not be able to run at 60fps on the highest graphics settings on Sony’s new PS5 Pro.
They suggested that if the base PlayStation 5 can’t run a game at 60 fps on Graphics Mode, the Pro variant probably won’t be able to do it either.
PS5 Pro possibly not running GTA 6 at 4k 60 fps is likely a CPU problem, not a GPU one
The tech expert Richard Leadbetter shared their thoughts on the newly revealed PS5 Pro, saying that the CPU in PS5 Pro is the same as the standard PS5 model, and all the main enhancements in the Pro model are geared towards the GPU.
They gave the example of a PS5 game, mentioning how they struggle to hit 60 fps even on Performance Mode on the standard model:
“Space Marine 2 - Performance mode on that on PlayStation 5 doesn’t get near 60 frames per second and it won’t with PlayStation 5 Pro.”
According to them, the graphics will look better on the Pro model but it won’t be able to do it at 60 fps because it’s not about rendering but what is being simulated.
When asked if PS5 Pro could run GTA 6 at 60 fps, he said the following:
“That’s a simulation-heavy game historically, and I would say probably not there, which is probably going to upset a lot of people, but you know every single GTA game has been 30 fps, sometimes struggling to hit 30 fps.”
According to him, PS5 Pro might not be able to run the game at 60 fps if Rockstar pushes the simulation in GTA 6. He suggested if the base machine can’t do it, chances are the Pro model probably won’t be able to do it.

Sony unveiled the PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024, revealing its hefty price of $699.99. Here are some features that fans can expect from the new console:
- 2TB SSD
- 2-3x faster ray tracing
- AI Upscaling
- PS5 Game Boost Mode
- Targeting to achieve 60 fps in graphics mode
- Compatible with all PS5 accessories
Rockstar Games are very skilled at what they do, and they can push the limits of both PS5 and PS5 Pro and make 60 fps possible on both of them. There’s still some time left to optimize the game before it releases next year in the fall of 2025.
Players shouldn’t lose any hope until we see actual gameplay on either of Sony’s consoles.
