"I don’t think that’s the case": GTA 6 publisher's CEO reportedly doesn't believe AI will accelerate game releases
GTA 6 is still some time away from its release date of 2025, and it now seems the availability of AI tools won’t necessarily help the game release any faster. In an interview with CNBC on November 11, 2024, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, Strauss Zelnick, seemingly claimed not to believe that the use of AI will accelerate the making of new video games. In his reply to AI’s possible role in the company, he said:
“I would love to say that it’s going to make things cheaper, quicker, better, or easier to make hits. I don’t think that’s the case.”

GTA 6 publisher CEO acknowledges AI but doesn’t think it’s going to help release games faster
During the interview with CNBC, Strauss Zelnick was asked about his take on AI and how it has changed what Take-Two Interactive is going to pursue. According to him, AI already existed in the interactive entertainment business, including video games, since the beginning.
The CEO added:
“Let me just remind you that AI stands for artificial intelligence. Which is an oxymoron. There is no such thing.”
He continued:
“All of our tools do help us become more efficient…that said, it’s going to become commoditized. Everyone is going to have access to the same tools. That is the history of toolsets. What it means, though, is our creative people will be able to do fewer mundane tasks and turn their attention to the really creative tasks.”
This seemingly suggests that GTA 6’s publisher may not be into the AI hype compared to other video game companies like Electronic Arts.
However, this could either mean that the development of GTA 6 has taken AI support or there won't be any AI-created assets in the game.
Fans of the game will have to wait for its release in fall 2025 to see how it looks. Hopefully, the company will share more information about it soon.
