GTA 5 update today (September 25, 2024): Full patch notes, and more
As can be seen from the aforementioned screenshot, Rockstar Games Support has added a single patch note for the new GTA 5 update released today which reads:
Game Stability and Performance
- General fixes for stability and security
However, it seems that the patch added some much-needed improvements to the BattlEye ant-cheat software. According to a report by popular Rockstar insider Tez2 on X earlier today, the new update introduced the following anti-cheat improvements for PC players:
- Updating the logic for determining the session host (public lobbies)
- Prevents hackers/cheaters from taking over the host easily
- Improved the untrusted host kick measure
All of the aforementioned improvements are aimed at providing a better Grand Theft Auto Online experience to PC players. While it is good to see the developers constantly working to improve the multiplayer experience, there are still some underlying issues with BattlEye that haven’t been resolved with today’s update.
For those unaware Rockstar Games integrated the BattlEye anti-cheat software to GTA 5 on PC on September 17, 2024. This anti-cheat protects players from hackers or cheaters in online lobbies. However, there are still a few serious issues that haven't been addressed at the time of writing.
According to Rockstar Games Support, here are a few of the known issues with the BattlEye update:
- The anti-cheat for Grand Theft Auto 5 won’t work properly with some graphics mods like ReShade and Special_K.
- The anti-cheat for Grand Theft Auto 5 won’t work as intended with some antivirus programs like AVG and Trend Micro.
However, the biggest issue with this BattlEye ant-cheat update for Grand Theft Auto 5 remains its incompatibility with Steam Deck, which has led to Rockstar disabling online play on the popular handheld platform. Still, Valve and Rockstar Games are reportedly working together to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
Steam Deck users can expect a resolution from the developers soon.
