Next GTA Online update to add a brand new game mode, name leaked

GTA Online has just received a brand new weekly update, adding a bunch of fresh bonuses for players to claim. However, it seems that Rockstar has planned something big for next week’s event as announced by them in the latest newswire of August 15, 2024. Here's what they informed all Grand Theft Auto Online players today:

"Starting next week, we will begin rotating certain Series and Modes in and out to improve matchmaking and make space for new GTA Online Modes. One of our first swaps will replace Assault on Cayo Perico with an exciting new multi-stage Adversary Mode."

While the developers didn't reveal the name of the name adversary mode, popular insider Tez2 reported on X earlier today that the brand-new Adversary Mode will be called Assault on ATT-16.

GTA Online’s new adversary mode is like Assault on Cayo Perico

As can be seen above, Tez2 specifically mentioned in their report that the upcoming Assault on ATT-16 adversary mode is going to be like the Assault on Cayo Perico but on an aircraft carrier.

Assault on Cayo Perico adversary mode was added last year, allowing players to go head-to-head on the fan-favorite Cayo Perico island of the game. The new Assault on ATT-16 is expected to be based on the carrier of the USS Luxington.

Moreover, Tez2 noted that Assualt on Cayo Perico will be replaced with the new game mode for some time as Rockstar Games will start shuffling available game modes from next week onwards.

While not much is known about the new adversary mode at the time of writing, let’s quickly learn about the USS Luxington (ATT-16) on which the game mode will be based upon.

USS Luxington (ATT-16) in GTA Online

The USS Luxington (ATT-16) in GTA Online is an uncontrollable U.S. Navy supercarrier. It made its debut in 2015 as part of the popular Heists update. Based on the real-life Nimitz aircraft carrier (United States Navy), it is the second-largest military ship to ever appear physically in any Grand Theft Auto game to date.

According to the in-game files, the ship carries a fleet of Hydras and P-996 LAZERs. It also features RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile launchers and Phalanx CIWS turrets, just like the ones found on the real-life U.S. Navy Ships.

The ATT-166 has the following three main levels:

  • Hangars
  • Flight deck
  • Superstructure

Players can expect to roam on the top level of the ship during the reported Assault on ATT-16 adversary mode.
