Rockstar reportedly rolled out a GTA Online ban wave for bypassing the BattlEye anti-cheat

A GTA Online ban wave was reportedly rolled out earlier this week, affecting many users in multiplayer lobbies. According to a report on X by a popular Rockstar insider Tez2 on September 27, 2024, the ban wave targeted players who were bypassing the BattlEye anti-cheat layer. The BattlEye has just been integrated into the game’s PC version for improving multiplayer lobbies.

The article also provides a link where players can appeal if they have been wrongly banned from GTA Online.

As can be seen above, insider Tez2 also reported that the GTA Online ban wave seems to have falsely banned some non-cheaters as well. If you think you’re being wrongly banned, you can file an appeal via the link below:

On September 26, 2024, a popular Grand Theft Auto community member @morsmutual_ shared a screenshot of an email that had been sent to players banned by Rockstar Games. Here’s what it reportedly reads:

“This is a message from Rockstar Games. Your account was used in violation of our Terms of Service and/or EULA…..Your account has been banned from playing GTA Online on PC permanently.”

According to a report on X by another popular Grand Theft Auto community member, PLTytus, on September 22, 2024, this GTA Online ban wave has affected many cheaters as they shared a screenshot where some Discord server members seemingly confirmed being affected by it. The media includes some complaints and permanent ban screens.

The BattlEye anti-cheat software was integrated into the game's PC version on September 17, 2024, adding the much-needed layer of security for online multiplayer. The update also made the popular handheld gaming console Steam Deck incompatible to play Grand Theft Auto Online. However, it has been reported that Rockstar and Valve are currently working to resolve this issue.

There are still some problems with the BattlEye anti-cheat on Grand Theft Auto Online. Here are two of the known issues with the software shared by Rockstar Games:

  1. The anti-cheat isn’t compatible and won’t function properly with some anti-cheat software like AVG and Trend Micro.
  2. The anti-cheat isn’t compatible and won’t function properly with some graphics mods like Special_K and ReShade. Players can still launch the game with these mods; however, these will be disabled during the gameplay.

One important thing to note is that BattlEye anti-cheat isn’t required to play Grand Theft Auto 5 RP on official Rockstar community RP servers.
