Ubisoft sees GTA 6 as a growth opportunity: Report

GTA 6 is expected to give a very tough competition to other video games releasing around it. The Rockstar Games title will drop during Fall 2025 on current-gen consoles and, given the excitement around it, should do very well in terms of sales. Interestingly, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot reportedly believes that Grand Theft Auto 6's success could result in people checking out other video games too.

During Ubisoft's recent Q1 FY2025 Investor's Call, he allegedly stated that the studio saw very good sales when Grand Theft Auto 5 released in 2013, and again when its Expanded and Enhanced Edition (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version) launched. Therefore, Ubisoft might be looking at the next Grand Theft Auto installment as a growth opportunity.

Ubisoft CEO reportedly believes GTA 6 could bring attention to other games as well

Ubisoft recently held its Q1 FY2025 Investor's Call. During the event, its CEO, according to a report by Rockstar Intel (X/@GTAonlineNews), talked about how a Grand Theft Auto title's release brings a lot of attention, resulting in other games in the market at the same time also doing well.

Here's what he said according to the aforementioned report:

"What we see generally when GTA is coming more people come to play. So, generally it is positive on the overall market and other games that are available during that time are actually doing really well as well."

He allegedly also referred to Ubisoft's sales volume growth at GTA 5's launch:

"So it is something we saw a few times already because we had very good sales when GTA V came and also when they did a remaster on the new consoles so it is something that’s counter-intuitive but is working for us in general."

Notably, this isn't the first time Yves Guillemot has said something like this. Earlier this year in February, the Ubisoft CEO talked about Grand Theft Auto 6's launch being a positive for the industry, reportedly stating similar reasons as the basis of his belief.

Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be very surprising if it actually does. The release of Grand Theft Auto 6's first trailer was quite a major event in itself, not only within the gaming community but in mainstream social media as well.

So, there is a possibility of other video games possibly benefitting from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title. Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, will hold its own Earnings Call in August and more information, such as the GTA 6 price tag, screenshots, or release windows for future trailers might be revealed at the event.
