Will GTA 6 have a girl protagonist? Everything we know now
Rumors of GTA 6 having a girl protagonist were present long before the game was even officially showcased. The idea was further solidified via the title's leaked development clips in September 2022 and then finally confirmed with the release of its first official trailer in December 2023. The next, and highly anticipated, chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series will have a girl protagonist named Lucia.
Not much is known about the character in detail as of this writing since Rockstar Games has been absolutely silent on the sequel ever since the first trailer dropped. Nevertheless, the showcased footage has at least given out a bit of information. So, let's look at everything known about GTA 6's girl protagonist so far.
Here's everything known so far about GTA 6's girl protagonist Lucia
Lucia will be the first ever properly voiced, playable girl protagonist in the Grand Theft Auto series. The official GTA 6 trailer introduces the character with a shot of her in her prison cell, and this is where we get to know her name. What crime she exactly is in prison for is unknown at this point, but we do see her attempting to rob what seems like a department store later in the same trailer.
It is also interesting to note that Lucia is not alone in this venture and is accompanied by a male character, who she seemingly is in a relationship with.
The latter wasn't named in the trailer, but a similar playable character was seen in the 2022 GTA 6 leaks, reportedly named Jason, and he might be the second protagonist of the upcoming game.
When and how the two meet each other is also unknown at the moment. Furthermore, we have no idea about whether Lucia ends up in prison at the beginning, middle, or end of GTA 6's story. The trailer makes it seem like that could be at the beginning, but there is no confirmation yet, and we will have to wait for Rockstar Games to divulge more information.
Besides that, another intriguing bit of detail on the GTA 6 girl protagonist comes from the official artwork in which Lucia is seen wearing an ankle monitor.
Some suspect that it might be used to restrict players' movement at the beginning of the game, similar to how certain areas of the map are initially locked in most Grand Theft Auto titles. That said, it remains to be seen whether the ankle monitor will actually be used for that purpose.
There is no way to tell exactly when Rockstar Games will reveal more information about Lucia, her partner, or Grand Theft Auto 6 in general. However, Take-Two Interactive's next earnings call will be held pretty soon, and that might be when we get to hear more about the sequel.
