Asian Champions Trophy: India beat Malaysia 5-1 to book spot in final
India’s women’s team continued their impressive run at the Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Japan, as they comprehensively beat Malaysia 5-1 to book a place in the final.
The score was 1-1 at half-time, after which the Indians picked up the pace to register their fourth consecutive win of the tournament.
Malaysia took the lead in the 15th minute through a penalty corner from captain Nadia Abdul Rehman.
India responded with a penalty corner of their own in the 24th minute when Poonam Rani found the net.
Namita Toppo (44th), Ritu Rani (52nd) Amandeep Kaur (54th), and Deep Grace Ekka (65th) then scored for India in the second half to put the game beyond doubt.
India will play hosts Japan in their last round-robin match on Thursday, which will be a dress rehearsal for the final against them on Saturday.
