FIH formally writes to IOA honouring Hockey India as the National Association of India
In continuation to the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) based out of Lausanne, Switzerland, on 17th September 2015, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has now formally written a letter to the Indian Olympic Association, requesting them to remove all reference of the IHF from their records and website.
FIH however had approved Hockey India (HI) during the FIH Congress in November 2014 as the National Association of India. This decision was later appealed by the Indian Hockey Federation to CAS, and CAS confirmed this decision to reinstate HI as the official governing body for the sport of hockey in India.
Hockey India came into existence in the year 2009 and ever since Indian hockey has only seen positive changes. Prestigious international events such as the FIH Champions Trophy, Olympic Qualification, and FIH Hockey World League are some of the events that Hockey India has hosted in India giving the players and the audience an opportunity to experience top level international hockey.
Hockey India through the highly successful Hockey India League has taken the sport to the next level creating aspiration amongst youngsters to make a career in the sport and helping unearth fresh talent. The Hockey India League has not only helped Indian hockey but also has attracted many international stars. In the past few years Hockey India has only helped India become a prominent destination in the global hockey map.
Since the inception of Hockey India, the Indian National Hockey Teams have seen a resurgence in performance, including the Indian Men’s and Women’s qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
