Germany hold India in Hockey World League
India faced off against Germany in their final group stage match and played out a 3-3 draw against the Olympic champions.
India were on the attacking foot from the word go and Birender Lakra had the 1st chance in the 5th minute, but couldn’t square the pass to Sunil.
The 1st penalty corner went in favor of India but the Indians were not able to convert it, their overall quality from penalty corners was poor in the whole tournament. India drew 1st blood however when a deflected shot flew past a helpless German keeper.
Germany got a penalty corner in the 24th minute and took their chance to make it 1-1 via Oliver Korn.
Indians probed and were rewarded when they re-took the lead again before half time as Rupinder scored to make it 2-1.
Germany, who are a higher ranked team, equalized again after 8 minutes into the 2nd half.
India were more proactive in possession knowing that they need the goals, and their attackers were a constant threat.
They were awarded a penalty corner soon and Dharamvir took his chance emphatically to put India ahead for the 3rd time in the match.
Sardar was shown a green card but India held on nervously until th 67th minute, when Germany equalized again to make it 3-3. However, the draw was enough and India will face Australia in the quarter final.
