Hockey India felicitates junior men's team
New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) Hockey India (HI) here Thursday felicitated the Junior Men’s Hockey Team for winning the gold medal at the third Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Bahru, Malaysia last month.
In the felicitation ceremony, Sports Minister Jitendra Singh awarded cheques of Rs.1 lakh to each player and the national coach Gregg Clark.
Also a cheque of Rs.50,000 was awarded to each member of the team’s support staff.
Midfielder Harjeet Singh was awarded an additional cheque of Rs.1 lakh for winning the Most Promising Player of the Tournament Award.
Also during the felicitation ceremony cash awards were presented to the members of Senior Men and Women teams.
Dragflicker V.R. Raghunath who won Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament and Goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh who was declared Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the ninth Men’s Asia Cup were awarded a cheque of Rs.1 lakh each.
Forward Ramandeep Singh was also awarded a cheque of Rs.1 lakh for scoring a goal in his debut match at the Asia Cup.
Goalkeeper Savita, member of the Senior women’s team who was declared Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Eighth Women’s Asia Cup was also awarded cheque of Rs.1 lakh.
Forward Rani, member of the Senior Women Team was presented a trophy for completing her 100 International Caps.
Jitendra Singh wished good luck to the Indian team for the forthcoming Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Japan.
“It’s a proud moment that our hockey teams are winning medals in various prestigious tournaments. The government of India will give its full support to the game of hockey and we hope that our teams will bring laurels to the nation,” he said.
