Hockey India and Star Sports reach an agreement over broadcasting rights
Hockey India (HI) and Star Sports have reached an agreement over broadcasting rights for India’s matches for the next 3 years. Star will now broadcast all international matches involving India. This deal comes on the back of agreement made by International Hockey Federation and Star Sports for the next eight years.
The president of Hockey India, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra hailed the broadcasting package given by Star Sports and showed full faith in the production team of Star Sports. He also said that Star Sports reach to maximum number of viewers and praised Star Sports for using a different approach by creating a complete experience for the viewers.
He said, “Star Sports is known for its strong content and production quality which helps in increase viewers experience. They understand the target audience’s pulse and they package the entire show accordingly. They are known for creating a complete experience for each tournament and that’s what makes them stand out.”
Mr. Uday Shankar, CEO, Star Sports was seen very pleased with this association going on for the next three years. He also insisted that Star Sports is fully committed in order to create a multi-sport culture in India and to produce world class broadcasting of all India International matches and Hockey India League.
He said, “The decision to continue our association with Hockey India is in line with our commitment towards development of a multi-sports culture in India. This association signals our commitment towards this transformation, through the world-class production of all International matches and the vibrant Hockey India League.”
Initially, Hockey India and Star Sports had an agreement for three years from 2012 to 2015 to promote the game in India. This new deal ends in the year 2018.
