Hockey Karnataka announces the second edition of Bengauru Cup between October 10th & 19th 2015
After a successful first edition last year, Hockey Karnataka is back again with the second round of The Bengaluru Cup, which will be held from the 10th- 19th of October. Hockey Karnataka announced the second edition of this much- awaited field hockey event today in the presence of guests of honor Rahul Dravid and Nisha Millet.
The occasion also saw the unveiling of the official uniform of team Karnataka XI, by star hockey players from the state.
The tournament will feature 6 teams from across India in both the Men and Women’s categories of the sport, competing against each other to clinch the prestigious Bengaluru Cup. The teams battling it out at the tournament are Air India, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Army XI, Karnataka XI and ONGC in the Men’s category and Punjab XI, Haryana XI, Karnataka XI, Jharkhand, MP Academy and RCF in the Women’s category.
The Bengaluru Hockey Stadium, the venue for this edition of the tournament will witness an impressive line-up of players who have represented team India and displayed remarkable performance across various international tournaments.
The highlight of The Bengaluru Cup 2015 will be the presence & participation of players from the national women’s team which has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics- an extremely impressive achievement for the said team after close to four decades. The players to watch out for from Karnataka are Teena T, Muthamma, Rashmy P P and Sandhya H P and men players like Nithin Thimmaiah, M B Aiyappa, P L Thimmanna?, KP Somiah?.
Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep Somesh, Honorary Joint Secretary of Hockey Karnataka said, “With this tournament, we endeavour at amplify awareness and assist the development of the sport of hockey at the grass root level and bring back the vigor, valor and pride that was once associated with the national game. With the help of Hockey Karnataka, we look at unearthing and honing promising talent from the state. We intend to pave a way for the growth of the game in the country and showcase the best hockey talent from across India.”
Expressing his excitement about the second edition of the tournament, Rahul Dravid said, “Hockey Karnataka offers young hockey players a fantastic opportunity by giving them a chance to rub shoulders with some of the most prominent and established players in the country. Recalling pleasant memories from the days I played hockey on the field, it gives me immense pleasure to support the sport and a sense of pride to see national game thrive.”
Speaking about the tournament, renowned swimmer Nisha Millet commented, “This initiative by Hockey Karnataka helps create an intrigue and buzz among the masses about the sport. The Bengaluru Cup is a platform for hockey players in India to showcase their caliber. My best wishes and support to the tournament and we look forward to the event.”

Hockey Karnataka (HK) came into being in 2010 as the governing body for Hockey in Karnataka. Comprising of a lot of former women & men players who have represented Karnataka & India at the highest level, HK set about with a single agenda to promote the game in Karnataka. About Bangalore Cup
After the success of the inaugural edition in 2014, Hockey Karnataka is buoyed to make this tournament an annual affair. Bringing together over 12 teams of myriad backgrounds through the shared love of hockey. Bangalore Cup seeks to promote and celebrate the rich cultures and diversity represented in India in the effort to let the passion of the game unite us all. This tournament is via invitation only and the organizing committee will hand pick the top 6 teams in both Men and Women’s hockey. These teams will be represented by Players who don the Indian colours and players who are preparing in right earnest to seal their spot on the National team to Rio 2016.
