India vs South Korea in Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024: Player ratings for India from hard-fought 3-2 win
The Indian women's hockey team managed to eke out a 3-2 win over South Korea on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024. In their second match of the tournament, played in Rajgir, Bihar, the Indian side had to battle hard to gain full points from the contest.
The hosts dominated possession in the first half and almost blocked out any attacking moves from their opponents. They went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. But the Koreans fought back and leveled the score in the third quarter.
What followed was a very frustrating period for the Indian team as they repeatedly made incursions into the circle but failed to give the finishing touch to their attempts.
Eventually, in the 57th minute, they earned a penalty stroke which was converted by Deepika to secure the win for her team.
As the dust settles in Rajgir after the second day of action in the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024, here is a look at player ratings for India from their latest game.
Player ratings for India from their match against South Korea in Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024
Sharmila Devi - 6/10
Sharmila was very active for her team in this contest. However, she lost an entire point for her indiscipline, which led to her receiving a yellow card in the 44th minute. Otherwise, she had a good outing.
Bichu Devi Kharibam - 7/10
Bichu Devi didn't have much to do, as both in the second and fourth quarters when she helmed the goalpost for India, there were few opportunities created by the Korean team. There were no glaring errors from her.
Savita - 7/10
Though Savita did concede the two goals that came in the third quarter, she couldn't be blamed for either. The former India captain did her job effectively.
Sangita Kumari - 8/10
Sangita was in superb form again and both with her scoring and dribbling left a mark on the contest. She gave India the lead and remained a vital part of the forward line.
Udita - 7/10
As usual, Udita was a reassuring presence at the back for India. She couldn't do much with the penalty corners, but she isn't a drag-flicker, so can't be blamed much for that.
Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke - 5/10
Vaishnavi didn't play a starring role in the match but was an also-ran in the contest.
Lalremsiami - 7.5/10
The forward from Mizoram has been a key member of the Indian forward line and is also active when the team falls back in defense. However, her inability to convert chances docks her half-point for this match.
Jyoti - 6/10
For the most part of the game, Jyoti was inconspicuous. This also means there weren't any big mistakes committed by her.
Navneet Kaur - 7.5/10
Navneet is the best dribbler in the Indian team and a very experienced player. She did her job well but she too was lacking in giving the last push to convert chances into goals. That loses her half-a-point.
Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam - 7/10
Sushila was very active in the midfield and played a vital role for the Indian team.
Sunelita Toppo - 8/10
The 17-year-old precociously talented girl once again put up an impressive show. She went on daring runs and was very assertive in the game. She is bound to be a superstar in the future.
Salima Tete - 7/10
The speed merchant in the Indian midfield, Salima, did a good job without any exceptional moments.
Neha - 7/10
Neha was her usual reliable self in the middle of the Indian formation. But there were no extraordinary maneuvers from her.
Preeti Dubey - 6.5/10
Preeti Dubey had some good moments early on in the contest. But she seemed to go missing in the second half of the game.
Manisha Chauhan - 6/10
Manisha was given a green card in the fifth minute of the game. This error early in the contest costs her a point.
Ishika Chaudhary - 6/10
Another member of the Indian team was rather inconspicuous in the contest.
Beauty Dungdung - 8/10
A 'Beautiful' performance from this Indian player. She was a very creative member of the Indian midfield and consistently created chances for the home team.
Deepika - 7/10
Deepika scored two goals for the Indian team but she was part of the forward line that repeatedly failed to make use of the many chances that came their way. Hence, she is docked a point.
