Indian hockey goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh awarded the Lt. Col. G V Raja Award
Indian Men’s hockey team Vice- Captain, and Arjuna Awardee P.R. Sreejesh was bestowed with the prestigious Lt. Col. G V Raja Award for the year 2014-2015 by the Kerala Sports Council, along with a cash award of INR 3 lakhs. It is the highest honour for any athlete in Kerala at the state level.
The award was given in a public meeting presided by Sri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Government of Kerala at Mascot Hotel Trivandrum. The Award was given to the Indian international hockey player by Sri. Oommen Chandy, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala. P.R. Sreejesh who is the goalkeeper for India will be participating in the three-match test series against Australia which is followed by the Hero Hockey World League final in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, later this month.
P.R. Sreejesh on receiving the award said, “This is a moment of pride and joy for me to be bestowed with such an honour. I would like to thank the Kerala Sports Council for considering me worthy enough of such a high honour. I hope I can keep up the good work and prove to be a source of inspiration for the upcoming athletes in the state.”
Mohd. Mushtaque Ahmad, Hockey India, Secretary General said, “ Sreejesh has been a great asset for Indian Hockey and he will be crucial for the upcoming Hero Hockey World League Finals and many more years to come. This honour will prove to be a real confidence booster for him ahead of the premier tournament. This will also set an example amongst all other team members to strive for more.”
