Hockey India to host inaugural Masters Cup

On Tuesday, July 2, Hockey India (HI) announced the inception of the Masters Cup, the innovative competition that will have veteran players in men’s and women’s categories. The tournament is designed to celebrate the long-lasting passion and skill of seasoned hockey players.

It’s worth noting that all Indian affiliate state members will be eligible to participate in the competition and all eligible veteran players aged around and above 40 who want to compete in the tournaments have to contact their respective state member units and register through the Hockey India Member Unit Portal.

Hockey India will announce the dates and venues of the tournament soon. Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey released the official statement on its website unveiling the tournament that honors the dedication and passion of the veteran hockey players.

“We are thrilled to announce the first-ever Hockey India Masters Cup, an event that honors the dedication and passion of our veteran players.
“This tournament is a celebration of their enduring love for the sport and a testament to their invaluable contributions to hockey in India,” HI president Dilip Tirkey said in a statement.

Furthermore, the HI president stated that the upcoming Masters Cup will provide an ideal platform to continue competing while ensuring that their experience will inspire the younger generation of players.

“By providing a platform for former players to continue competing, we aim to foster a strong sense of community and ensure that their experience and enthusiasm continue to inspire future generations of players," he further stated.

Hockey India encourages all eligible players to participate

Additionally, HI Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh had his say and encouraged all eligible veterans to register and compete in the competition.

“This tournament not only allows former athletes to maintain their connection to the sport but also provides a unique opportunity for them to showcase their skills and fitness,” he stated.
“We encourage all eligible players to register and participate, as this event promises to be a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved,” he concluded.

This tournament’s main goal is to bring together former players, allowing them to reconnect with the sport they love while competing at a high level.

Meanwhile, Hockey India started off with the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men & Women North Zone Championship 2024 on Monday, July 1 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. This exciting competition will see a total of eight teams aiming for the championship title in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The competing teams in the Hockey India Junior Men & Women North Zone Championship 2024 include Hockey Haryana, Hockey Punjab, Delhi Hockey, Hockey Himachal, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir, Hockey Uttarakhand, Hockey Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh Hockey.
