Hockey India League 2024-25: Delhi SG Pipers sign Australian defender Corey Weyer

Delhi SG Pipers have acquired the services of Australian defender Corey Weyer as a replacement for fellow Australian player Flynn Ogilvie for the Hockey India League 2024, the franchise announced on Friday, October 25.

Graham Reid, the head coach of the men's team of Delhi SG Pipers, was glad to have Corey added to the club. He was quoted as saying in a press release:

“Corey is a great defender and a world-class distributor of the ball. He also brings with him an extra dragflicking option. Weyer’s selection for the Delhi SG Pipers aligns with the team’s goal of bolstering the defence with a player who has proven himself at the highest level of international hockey.”

Corey Weyer has played 63 matches for Australia since his debut in 2017. The 28-year-old has scored three goals in national colors. He won the bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup in Bhubaneshwar.

The defender played 11 matches for the Australia Under-18 team in 2014 and made 11 appearances for the Under-21 side.

SG Sports Media and Entertainment (SGSE) CEO Mahesh Bhupathi said (via Sportstar):

“We welcome Corey to Delhi SG Pipers family. He is a great addition to our team as he is strong defender and his addition will only fortify our backline. As a team, we are really excited because we have managed to rope in a top-notch player in the form of Corey.”
