Punjab Hockey League to feature six teams; league to commence from June 29
The upcoming edition of the Punjab Hockey League (PHL), organized by Hockey Punjab and Roundglass Sports, commences on Saturday, June 29. The competition will see six junior teams competing across four venues in the state.
The six teams competing in the competition are Surjit Hockey Academy, Namdhari Sports Academy, SGPC Academy, PIS Mohali, PIS Ludhiana, and Roundglass Academy.
Each team will play a total of 10 matches, meeting the other team twice in the group stage. The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing five matches at home and five away from home. The matches will be played only on weekends at AstroTurf across multiple venues in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Mohali.
Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar, the Balbir Singh Sr. International Hockey Stadium in Mohali, the Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Stadium in Ludhiana, and Namdhari Hockey Stadium, Jiwan Nagar are identified as the venues for the Punjab Hockey League.
The officials of the Surjit Hockey Academy have confirmed that each team will have a roster of 25 players. Seven players would be under the age of 19, while the remaining 18 players would be aged below 17.
Only Hockey India official players will be allowed to compete in the upcoming edition of the Punjab Hockey League. The league will have an overall prize pool of Rs.5.5 lakh. The summit clash of the tournament will be played on August 25.
Punjab Hockey League season opener to be played in Jalandhar
The season opener of the Punjab Hockey League will be played between Surjit Hockey Academy PIS, Jalandhar and Namdhari Sports Academy at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.
The second match of the competition will be hosted between S.G.P.C Hockey Academy, Amritsar, and PIS Mohali.
The remaining two teams PIS Ludhiana and Roundglass Hockey Academy will start their campaign later in the competition.
