Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship 2024: Railways beat IOC 3-1 to win title
Railway Sports Promotion Board defeated Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd Women 3-1 in the summit clash of the 4th Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Department National Championship 2024 on Monday (October 21).
Deepika opened the scoring for the Indian Oil Corporation in the 18th minute off a field goal to hand her side a 1-0 lead in the match. However, Vandana Katariya found the back of the net in the 19th minute to level the scores at 1-1.
Both teams went into the half-time break, with the scoreline reading 1-1. Railway Sports Promotion Board captain Navneet Kaur scored a goal in the 43rd minute to take a 2-1 lead.
In the last quarter, Salima Tete brushed one past the IOC goalkeeper in the 49th minute to ensure a comfortable 3-1 victory for Railways to deny Indian Oil Corporation an opportunity to defend their title.
Both teams failed to convert their penalty corners and relied on field goals to win the match. Railway Sports Promotion Board were awarded three penalty corners - one in the first and two in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd Women received one penalty corner in the game, which came off in the final quarter.
Earlier in the day, Sports Authority of India (SAI) squared off against the Central Board of Direct Taxes in the 3rd/4th place match. The match ended in a 0-0 draw and went into a penalty shootout.
Central Board of Direct Taxes won the match 3-2 in a penalty shootout with Neelam, Usha, and Vaishnavi Vitthal scoring goals for them. Manju Chorasiya and Preeti Dubey were the goal scorers for SAI.
