Indian hockey defender, Rupinder Pal Singh celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday, which fell on the same day as Diwali this year. The Punjab-born fullback is considered as one of the best drag-flickers around and is a regular in the Indian National Hockey team. He was also a part of the Indian squad which won the silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the gold medal in Asian games at Incheon the same year.

The Indian Hockey team is currently in Bangalore, preparing for the upcoming test series against Australia and the Hockey World League finals, which will start four days after the series with number one ranked team of the world gets over on 23rd November. The team for both the competitions has been announced and Rupinder is part of both the squads which is led by veteran midfielder Sardar Singh.

The tournaments will take place in Raipur, with Rajnandgaon hosting only the first match of test series.

The Indian team is in a tremendous run of form over the past few months which saw them defeating Spain and France on the European tour and most recently New Zealand in a test series. This brilliant stretch of form has helped them jump two places on the FIH rankings, they currently occupy the sixth place.

India’s number 3 uploaded a video of himself celebrating his birthday with team-mates of the hockey team. The players had a lot of fun during the birthday celebrations and smeared Rupinder’s face with the cake. Here is the video which was posted on his facebook page.
