Samuel Hunter Bennett is a skilled Canadian professional ice hockey center currently playing for the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League (NHL). When the Calgary Flames drafted Bennett with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, expectations rose for the then 18-year-old center. Having performed impressively in his previous two seasons with Kingston Frontenacs in the Ontario Hockey League, where he scored 54 goals and 131 points in 117 games, Bennett earned a spot at the Flames' training camp. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury requiring surgery disrupted his season, limiting him to 11 games with only one coming with the Flames as he was later reassigned to the Frontenacs.

Bennett became a regular for Calgary in the 2015-16 season, tallying 18 goals and 36 points. The highlight occurred on January 13, 2016, in a 6-0 victory against the Florida Panthers, when Bennett became the third-youngest player in NHL history to score four goals in a single game. On April 12, 2021, Bennett was traded to the Florida Panthers, along with a sixth-round pick in 2022. The Calgary Flames received draft rights to Emil Heineman and a second-round pick in 2022 in exchange. Later, on July 26, 2021, Bennett committed to the Florida Panthers by signing a four-year contract extension worth $17.6 million.

His 2012–13 season with the Frontenacs saw him play 40 games, accumulating 40 points and earning a spot on the OHL's Second All-Rookie Team. Returning for the 2013–14 season, Bennett became a scoring leader by the mid-season in the CHL. An injury interrupted his 24-game scoring streak, preventing him from participating in the 2014 CHL Top Prospects Game. Despite concerns raised during the NHL Scouting Combine, where he couldn't do a pull-up, Bennett retained his top prospect status. He finished the season with an impressive 36 goals and 91 points in 57 games, earning a spot on the OHL's Third All-Star Team.
