4-time champion releases statement following urgent surgery; he suffered a career-threatening injury
A four-time champion has released an official statement after undergoing emergency surgery. Chris Bey suffered a serious career-threatening injury at a recent TNA Impact taping in Detroit.
Bey, who made his name in TNA Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, appeared in 2019. He lost to Ariya Daivari on 205 Live but was not signed to a contract.
Fast forward to Bound for Glory on Saturday, the former X Division Champion his and tag team partner Ace Austin lost their TNA World Tag Team Title to The Hardys in a Full Metal Mayhem match that also involved Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards.
TNA Wrestling also held tapings the following day, with The Hardys facing Bey and Austin. During the match, the 28-year-old star suffered a serious injury and had to undergo neck surgery. The nature of the injury has not been revealed, but it was reportedly career-threatening.
In a post on X/Twitter, the three-time TNA World Tag Team Champion released a statement to extend his gratitude to all the people who helped him in his ordeal.
"I just want to take a few moments to extend my heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation for so much and to so many over the past few days," Bey began. "From everyone at TNA Wrestling, to the incredible medical staff here in Detroit, to family, friends and fans worldwide. I know you have been praying for my full recovery from the in-ring accident this past Sunday. Monday was Day One for me on this journey, which I know will be long and challenging. Thanks again for the love and support, and please keep the prayers coming!" Bey said.
There's a GoFundMe account set up for Chris Bey's recovery and many of his fellow wrestling stars have donated.
Former WWE Champion sends his regards to Chris Bey
The wrestling community has rallied behind Chris Bey regardless of promotion and company. Even former WWE Champion CM Punk sent some positive thoughts for the TNA star as his recovery begins.
Punk and Bey never wrestled each other, but it's great to see someone of The Second City Saint's stature show his support to the up-and-coming star. He also wrestled for TNA Wrestling from 2002 to 2004.
We at Sportskeeda send our best wishes and a speedy recovery to Chris Bey.
